One of the best ways to avoid the problem of characters blocking other characters in a setting with lots of people is to place them all along one side.
A BFG-9000 is a weapon from the video game Doom. A Deuteronic Frombotzer was mentioned in a GURPS game book, although I don’t remember which one. The Colonial Marines in the movie Aliens used M41A Pulse Rifles, and the Jedi used lightsabers. Photon torpedoes are from Star Trek, Turbolasers are from Star Wars, and Tacnukes are from the Steve Jackson Games’ boardgame Ogre. I can’t believe I crammed so many references into one strip!
I can’t say I really have a favorite character in the S-Team, because I like all of them, but I really enjoy Slick’s wide-eyed enthusiasm and Science Guy’s dry wit.
Stretch is JUST the guy you want to have on your side in battle. He’s loosely based upon a mixture of Plastic Man and Elongated Man, both of DC Comics. Both of them were irreverent scoundrels, much like Han Solo, whose LEGO head Stretch wears.
