“Isn’t this magical?” was spoken by Fat Bastard in Austin Powers 3 when his wire fighting team dropped him and he hung there in mid leap, helpless. I thought that was an exceptionally funny scene, so I thought I’d tribute it here. The “I bet I’m stuck here all week” is me poking fun at myself that most of my storylines end on a Friday.
Hattori Hanzo is, of course, the greatest swordsmith in the world, according to the movie Kill Bill. Losing your Hattori Hanzo blades would be the equivalent of, say, having the entire tax bases of the East and West Coasts suddenly vanish from America. Yeah, it’s like that.
“Yoicks” is actually a call used by English fox-hunters to urge on their hounds. In this context, though, I’m using it a la Daffy Duck as in his infamous “Yoicks, and Away!” from the 1958 cartoon Robin Hood Daffy. In the S-Team strip, the “and Away” would come when Slick runs for his life from Silence, which you’d do too if she was mad at you.
The Gelatinous Cube of Dungeons and Dragons fame ate organic material and left alone stuff like metal (D ‘n’ D invented stuff like Green Slime or Black Puddings and Rust Monsters as other methods for DMs to relieve characters of their hard-won gains).
I like using this particular setup, with some folks watching others pass by, then commenting about it in the last strip.
