These days, an SUV or minivan would be the logical choice of vehicle for a ninja trying to blend in with the rest of the crowd. The background images are of Tokyo, from a Broderbund Clip Art collection that I own. I find it amusing to have the S-Team traveling through different parts of the world when they’re out and about instead of their nice, brick-built sets.
Yes, I know it’s a bad joke. But it’s the S-Team, and bad jokes are their stock in trade. Unrelated to the strip but relevant to the gangsta rap track I quoted from here…I don’t listen to gangsta at all, but there’s a group from Texas called The Gourds who did a fabulously hilarious cover of Gin and Juice.
I’ve been using JPG images since pretty much the beginning of this webcomic. Recently I’ve become enamored with the PNG graphics format. Starting the second week of January, I’m going to experiment with PNGs in the webcomic and see if they look better.
The weird coloration of the characters in this comic is due to a light-blue windshield that I used (because I don’t have any clear ones six bricks across).
I thought long and hard about what kind of car Silence would drive. At first I was thinking something dark, cool, and sporty – like the Batmobile. Then I decided that maybe a large truck would be more practical, like the one in the movie Tango and Cash. From there it occurred to me that a white Bronco would be funny (although if you look more closely over the next few strips, you’ll probably think it looks more like a Range Rover). So, no ninjamobile. At least not for now…
Long-time readers of the S-Team may remember the first time Stonewall rode in someone else’s car. It ended in quite a fiasco. Is it any wonder he’s a little nervous?
